Automotive supplier Taiho's $8M expansion was a major project last year.[/caption] We just recently completed summarizing the statistics for 2015’s economic growth, and they are impressive. For 2015, there were 132 economic, community, and downtown development projects that became public, and associated with those projects was more than $89 million in new investment and 580 new jobs. Businesses doing those projects employ more than 4,500 workers, and these projects helped maintain and retain those jobs. The impact is significant. In the last four years alone, there has been more than a quarter of a billion dollars invested and 1,500 new jobs created. That's an amazing resurgence. Unemployment has declined from 8.8% at the end of 2011 to 6.5% at the end of 2013 to 4.9% at the end of 2014 and 2015 - almost cut in half. The number of people employed (26,100) is back up to pre-recession levels (December 2008). Crime rates have been reduced for the third consecutive year (net 75% reduction), and the cost of living remains 15-20% below the national average for Tiffin and Seneca County. For an overview of each year, pleased check out our annual reports, which describe the projects and the positive developments: To get a sense of some of our hottest areas.
