Tiffin-Fostoria-Seneca ranked #44 for large projects

TIFFIN, OHIO – MARCH 10, 2023 – Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership (TSEP) and the Fostoria Economic Development Corp. (FEDC) announced today that Seneca County has placed in the top 10% nationally in Site Selection magazine’s rankings for large, private economic development projects. This places the area at number 44 out of the nearly 600 micropolitans in the United States. Site Selection has ranked states and cities annually since 1978 and top micropolitians since 2004.

Tiffin Mayor Dawn Iannantuono was excited to learn of the news: “Thank you to Site Selection Magazine for again recognizing Tiffin for its strong economic growth. We’re proud to share this honor with Fostoria and all of Seneca County.”

This is the 12th year in a row that the Tiffin-Seneca micropolitan area has been ranked in the top 100 nationally, including seven placements within the top 10. In 2022, Seneca County was ranked 44th overall and tied for 11th in the State of Ohio. Qualifying projects must involve a capital investment of at least $1 million, create at least 20 new jobs or add at least 20,000 sq. ft. of new floor area.

Fostoria Mayor Eric Keckler agreed, saying, “Last year was another strong year in Fostoria and it is truly an honor to receive this national recognition once again.”

Seneca County Board of Commissioners President Tony Paradiso added, “I am elated to see Seneca County once again in the top 10% of all communities across the country for economic development projects. Congratulations to Governor DeWine and the state of Ohio for its top ranking in the nation as well.”

This year, Ohio placed first nationally for its capital investment activity in 2022, and the entire Northwest Ohio region posted strong numbers, with Findlay taking the number one micropolitan slot and Fremont, Bucyrus-Galion, Wapakoneta, Tiffin, Defiance and Sandusky all finishing within the top 10% nationally. Overall, Ohio had more than double the amount of projects and investment as the next closest state, Indiana.

“In Fostoria, Tiffin, and throughout Seneca County we continue to see investment, job creation, and growth opportunity”, said FEDC President Renee Smith, “I believe the Tiffin-Seneca Micropolitan ranking is a true testament to the partnerships and collaboration we see in Seneca County”.

TSEP President & CEO Aaron D. Montz was thrilled with this year’s ranking, “To finish in the top 10% nationally for 12 consecutive years proves that our success in Seneca County is no fluke. We’re winning year after year because we all work together for the greater good of our communities.”
