Three projects receive funding through Heritage Ohio

Downtown Tiffin received maximum grant of $20,000

TIFFIN, OHIO – Aug. 5, 2020 – Tuesday, the Tiffin Architectural Board of Review approved a roof placement for 195-197 S. Washington St. With this approval, three projects in Downtown Tiffin have now been approved for funding through the Heritage Ohio Main Street Program Grant, which provides funding to support building and business enhancement and job creation complementing the four-point Main Street Approach.

Downtown Tiffin received $20,000, the maximum grant amount, from Heritage Ohio for the 2020 program year. Projects include tuck pointing for Tiffin Boutique Hotel Group LLC, 160 S. Washington St., which received a $10,000 grant toward an approximately $300,000 investment; roof replacement/repair for American Legion Post 169, 280 S. Washington St., which received a $8,245.68 grant for an $18,000 investment; and roof replacement at 195-197 S. Washington St., which received a $1,754.32 grant to support a $3,508.53 investment.

Heritage Ohio was to award up to $440,000 for the 2020 grant cycle to National Main Street Communities. Downtown Tiffin has received accreditation for its Main Street program at both the state and national level for the years of 2016 through 2019. Applicant projects were eligible for a grant of up to $10,000 with a 1:1 match and projects were coordinated through Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership and Tiffin Architectural Board of Review.

Board approves façade grants for downtown businesses

Four building owners granted funds

TIFFIN, OHIO – April 16, 2019 – Today, the Architectural Board of Review (ABR) approved Façade Enhancement Grants for work to four buildings, including roof repairs of three buildings in Downtown Tiffin. The City of Tiffin has set aside $100,000 for projects this year.

The owners of the buildings had requested $5,743.24 to replace and repair exterior doors and for masonry repointing at 145-147 Madison Street; and $3,962.50 for 25 E. Perry St., $7,512 for Bolte Real Estate, 23 S. Washington St., and $10,000 for Tong’s Air Conditioning, Heating & Plumbing Inc., 40 E. Perry St., each for roof repairs.

With these projects, the total amount spent for 2019 is $56,743.22 of the available $100,000 for a total investment of $146,724.44. In April and March, the ABR approved two $10,000 grants to replace the roofs for Reclaim It, 127 S. Washington St., and the Renaissance of Tiffin, 129 S. Washington St., and in January, the board approved grants for 269 S. Washington St. and 27 Court St.

Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz commented: “With more than half of the allotted funds used, I’m glad the Façade Enhancement Grant continues to be a benefit to owners of properties in Downtown Tiffin.”

To apply for a Façade Enhancement Grant, the building owner should meet with Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership Downtown Main Street Manager AmyReinhart to discuss how the program works and obtain an application. Once the application is submitted, reviewed and deemed complete and without issues, the Architectural Board of Review will consider it before approval. Since the program’s inception in 2014, 68 projects have been approved for a total downtown investment of nearly $2.2 million.

About the Façade Enhancement ProgramThis City of Tiffin reimbursement grant program was started in 2014 and provides a 50 percent match of funds for eligible exterior improvements on residential and commercial structures within the downtown historic district, up to $10,000. WSO approved for Sign Enhancement Grant

Washington Street Outfitters has been approved by the Architectural Board of Review for a Sign Enhancement Grant to offset the costs of restoring the signage at their new storefront location, 186 S. Washington St. The approval is the second for the City of Tiffin’s Sign Enhancement Program, which provides a 50 percent reimbursement of expenses directly related to perpendicular signage on properties within the downtown target area, up to a maximum match of $1,000.

Washington Street Outfitters was approved for a $648.03 grant to restore their perpendicular sign. The application states:

“To maintain the integrity and heritage, the current sign’s structure will be restored. The outer edge will be restored with new aluminum and painted black. The general structure, size, and attachments will remain the same. Lighting will be added above the sign.”

This is the second approval for the program, which was implemented at the beginning of 2018 with an allocation of $10,000. The balance remaining in the fund is now $8,351.97.
