Company to invest in machinery and equipment

TIFFIN, OHIO – September 20, 2021 – QT2, aka Quick Tab 2, has announced today that the company is investing $350,000 in Seneca County in new machinery and equipment purchases. The company is located in the Northstar Industrial Park and employs 55 people.

QT2, a manufacturer of commercial print products, specializing in catalogues, booklets, small periodicals, calendars, brochures, business forms/checks, and various branding materials, is purchasing various equipment to improve efficiencies throughout the operation. These investments will allow the company to enhance their capabilities and diversify into other product areas that are offered by their many customers nationwide.

QT2 was founded in 1987 and is currently located in the second speculative industrial building constructed in Seneca County. The company started by primarily focusing on business documents, but has grown to produce brochures, postcards, calendars, and many on-demand commercial printed products.

Tiffin Farmers Co-op expands with Drive Thru

New service recently completed

TIFFIN, OHIO – July 8, 2021 – Tiffin Farmer’s Co-Op Inc. has announced today an expansion of their operations to add a drive thru, open during normal business hours, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday. The project started in March 2021 and was recently completed.

Through the service, customers can purchase water softener salt, wild bird seed in multiple sizes, lawn/garden fertilizer, animal feed, including for chickens and cows, pond chemicals and other items.

Tiffin Farmers is a member-owned, member-focused business striving to succeed in customer satisfaction. They offer a variety of products and services, including Agronomy, Feed, Grain, Industrial,  Seed, Lawn, Garden, and Pond. Following World War I, farmers in the Tiffin vicinity wanted to organize an elevator owned and operated by farmers. Tiffin Farmers’ Exchange opened on July 20, 1920, at the Walter Trumpler Elevator. Today, the Co-op employs 11 people.

“We’re excited for this opportunity to offer a service to our customers who want to pick up some essentials with the convenience of not having to leave their cars and come into the office,” said Steve Welter, bookkeeper at Tiffin Farmers Co-op.

“This is a great service and will hopefully help the co-op to continue to grow and provide its services for more people in Seneca County,” said Seneca County Commissioner Tony Paradiso, who recently tried the new drive thru.

A ribbon cutting with the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce is set for July 13 at 4pm.

TIFFIN, OHIO – June 8, 2021 – Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership is proud to have named Dorel/Ameriwood Industries as the 2021 Economic Development Award winner during the 2021 Annual Meeting June 3, 2021.

Ameriwood Industries has operated in Tiffin since 1954, and has been under the ownership of Dorel Industries Inc. since 1998. Locally, the plant employs 218 people.

In 2020, Dorel Home, a segment of Dorel Industries, announced that it would invest $3.27 million at its Ameriwood Home facility in Tiffin for machinery and equipment and hire an additional 87 employees at the plant over the next four years. The investment in Tiffin includes $2.57 million in new machinery and equipment and $700,000 in updates to the facility.

At the time, Norman Braunstein, President and CEO for Dorel Home, said, “We are excited to announce that we will be expanding in our facility in Tiffin. Tiffin has been an important partner in Dorel’s business model and will continue to rely on it as the company grows.”

Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership and Regional Growth Partnership in Northwest Ohio (RGP) worked with Dorel Home and consultant MarksNelson to bring this project to Ohio. Local incentives include a City of Tiffin’s New Jobs Program and OhioMeansJobs-Seneca County is offering up to $387,000 in potential workforce development grants. At the state level, RGP secured a Jobs Creation Tax Credit, Training Grant and Economic Development Grant through JobsOhio.

Your Legacy Federal Credit Union invests $1 million in building expansion

Credit union looks toward the future

TIFFIN, OHIO – Monday, May 10, 2021 – Today, Your Legacy Federal Credit Union, the longest serving credit union in Seneca County with 69 years of operation, broke ground on an expansion of its building at 25 Shaffer Park Drive. The $1 million project is to grow the footprint of the existing property from 5,006 square feet to 6,341 square feet.

The expansion is needed to add additional offices and a conference room, as well as updating the lobby and member service representative line to make it more modern. After consolidating locations in 2019, Your Legacy Federal Credit Union moved existing staff to their 25 Shaffer Park Drive office. The expansion may allow for hiring of additional staff in the future.

JDH Construction of Tiffin is providing contractor services and Encompass Engineers and Architects Inc. of Findlay is the architect for the project.

President/CEO Derek Sidor said he is pleased that Your Legacy Federal Credit Union continues to improve. “I’m excited about this opportunity to expand our building and better serve our members. Our credit union grew $11,025,308 in assets from 2019-2020 with current total assets of $75,848,336, which shows the trust of our members in our services.”

Free PPE Kits Available for Small Businesses

TSEP is distributing a limited supply of PPE Kits to Tiffin and Seneca County businesses.

TIFFIN, OHIO – July 24, 2020 – A small shipment of PPE (personal protective equipment) kits that include 100 disposable face coverings, 10 KN95 masks and a 23oz bottle of hand sanitizer have been allocated to Seneca County. These shoebox-sized kits are provided by JobsOhio, which is the private economic development marketing and sales arm of the State of Ohio.

The kits were distributed to counties on a population bases and are part of the State’s “Ohio Safe. Ohio Working” initiative which was launched to support Ohio business throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. TSEP is tasked with distributing them to local businesses. Development Managers Audrey Flood and Nick Dutro, along with Downtown Main Street Manager Amy Reinhart are working to disseminate the kits to businesses. TSEP is working with rural elected officials to offer kits to businesses in the townships and villages as well as businesses in the Downtown and throughout the City.

Webster invests $3 million at Tiffin facility

Company has invested over $5 million in past two years

TIFFIN, OHIO – July 21, 2020 – Webster Industries has announced that for a second year in a row, it is investing more than $2 million in its operations in Tiffin, Ohio.  In 2020, the company expects to spend over $3 million in major productivity, capacity, capability and facility enhancement projects.

Machinery and equipment purchases for 2020 include a new plasma cutting system, modernization of tool room machining technology and capabilities, automated heat treat in-feeding equipment, steel processing automation, new robotic welding work center, enhanced automation in core fixtured welding and assembly processes, and key plant infrastructure upgrades.

In 2019, Webster invested $2.1 million in machinery mainly for its sprocket line, which is one of the company’s strategic growth businesses.

Tom Rodgers Flowers expanding at downtown Tiffin location

Business partners with national clothing wholesaler

TIFFIN, OHIO – JANUARY 28, 2019 –Tom Rodgers Flowers announced today that they have finalized a deal with Jim’s Formal Wear to expand their operation and sell and rent designer clothing at their 245 South Washington Street location in downtown Tiffin. The store upgrades, including dressing rooms, will be complete this year and products are to be available by Valentine’s Day. Brian Ferguson, Owner and President of Tom Rodgers Flowers, expects to add two more staff members this year as well.

Based in Trenton, Illinois, Jim’s Formal Wear provides clothing nationally through seven service centers, eight regional hubs, and 5,000 retail locations nationwide. Currently, there one location in Attica (Seneca County), and other area stores can be found in Fremont, Findlay, Maumee and Upper Sandusky. The company specializes in clothing for weddings, formal dances and special events and offers items from designers such as Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Jean Yves and Lauren by Ralph Lauren.

Ferguson is pleased the project is moving forward: “Jim’s Formal Wear is a great strategic partner, and it will allow us to expand our business throughout the area. We service a lot of weddings, homecomings and proms, so I think this is a really good fit for our business.”

Tiffin manufacturer Agrati announces $1.6M expansion

Company to continue investment through 2019

agrati logoTIFFIN, OHIO – November 25, 2018 – The Agrati Group, a global manufacturer of fasteners for automotive companies, has announced completing its investment of $1.6 million in industrial machinery, equipment, and renovations at the Airport Industrial Park facility in Tiffin, creating 10 new jobs and bringing the total number of jobs at the Tiffin plant to 66. The project took place throughout calendar year 2018, and the company looks to consider possible additional investment next year.

The Tiffin plant was previously Jacobson Manufacturing which was acquired by ContMidGroup in 2014, which was in turn acquired by the Agrati Group in 2016. It is now one of 12 Agrati production facilities worldwide and two in Ohio. The facility primarily focuses on cold forming, tapping and thread rolling auto and truck wheel nuts, as well as a variety of tubular products, produced through fully automated welding and assembly. The facility was last expanded in 2013 with the addition of a 40,000 square foot building.

Agrati Plant Manager Casey Poignon commented: “This investment allowed us to expand our operations in Tiffin and we look toward future investment,” he said. “We have a great workforce, and we appreciate the support of JobsOhio, RGP Northwest Ohio, the Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership, OhioMeansJobs, and other partners in facilitating this and future projects.”

Seneca County unemployment at 18 year low

Unemployment April 2018.jpgFor the first time since 2000, the unemployment rate in Seneca County dipped below four percent, coming in at 3.9 percent for April 2018, an 18 year low for the county. In comparison, Ohio’s unemployment rate was 4.3 percent and the national rate 3.9 percent, according to a May 18 press release from Ohio Job and Family Services.

Many factors contribute to the growth in employment, including the availability and access to jobs. Between 2014 and 2017 alone, Seneca County saw $339 million in business and building establishment and expansion, creating more than 1,400 jobs.

Already in 2018 we have seen several new business announcements, including:

  • Spire Advertising – A satellite office for an Ashland, OH based advertising firm announced in March, opening in June 2018.
  • The Chandelier – A new event space set to open in the former Community Civic Center in downtown Tiffin later this year.
  • Trilogy Health Services – Announced in April, Trilogy is to build a senior living facility that will employ 110, at an estimated investment of $14.5 million.
  • Kiku Fusion Sushi and Steak House – A full-service sushi and hibachi restaurant to locate in the Tiffin Mall later this year.
  • Panda Express – An international chain serving fast-casual Chinese cuisine was approved for a setback to build on the Tiffin Mall site.
  • Senecare – A local pharmacist has started a new business in the Laird Arcade offering one-on-one pharmacy services.
  • Time Staffing – A northern Ohio-based staffing agency opened a branch in Tiffin earlier this year, growing to a total of 9 offices throughout the region.
  • Yoga Chuck Health and Wellness Studio – Longtime yoga instructor Chuck “Yoga Chuck” Burmeister renovated and opened his own studio.
  • The Attic – A new specialty shop in downtown Tiffin, an expansion of a successful Findlay, OH store.
  • Glass N More Store – Another specialty glass shop that opened its fifth northern Ohio location in downtown Tiffin.
  • Stover Veterinary Services – Veterinarian Dr. Amber Stover and her husband launch a mobile vet clinic in early 2018, to be accessible throughout Seneca County.
  • Tiffin Candle Co. – A Tiffin couple has created their own business producing and selling community themed candles with a charitable aspect.
  • Mantra Mind Management – A new consulting business in the Laird Arcade focused on self-discovery, emotional regulation, and vision creation.
  • Wireless Boys – A Boost Mobile retailer opened their doors on W. Market St. in Tiffin earlier this year.
  • Reineke RV – Reineke Family Dealerships purchased and relocated Fort Ball RV to W. Market St. earlier this year.
