About the Tiffin Art Guild
The Tiffin Art Guild & Gallery was created in 2006 to bring new and varied artwork to the Tiffin Community and surrounding communities. We offer varied art classes for both children and adults and are always looking for teachers and new ideas on classes to offer. We provide a place for artists and those who appreciate art to gather and display their artwork. We also need more members and volunteers in order to continue and expand on our mission.
The public is invited to experience a new and unique pop-up “shop” featuring local crafters and artisans who specialize in quality, handmade items, along with food producers and other creative merchants. The event will be held on Saturday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Laird Arcade Building and coincides with the first Seneca County Farmers Market of the season.
The organizer behind Uptown Flea is TiffinOhio.org owner Merre Phillips, who explained her inspiration: “I love these kind of events and have recently attended indie craft fairs and markets in Columbus and Toledo and knew that the same kind of talented crafters and makers were right here in our own community. With the popularity of these kind of events and with websites like Etsy.com, it felt like the right time to bring a creative group of vendors together in order for them to showcase and sell their products to a local market.”
Merre said that if the Uptown Flea goes well, she is looking forward to scheduling future dates for this event.
Here are the participating vendors that are confirmed to date:
A new Tiffin Halloween event, the 1st Annual Downtown Trick or Treat is slated for Friday, Oct. 30 from 3:30-5 p.m. More than 60 businesses, organizations and offices all over downtown Tiffin will be opening their doors to provide candy to children. Afterward, Tom Rodgers Flowers will have cider and donuts for adult trick or treaters from 5-6 p.m.
Organizer Yolanda Gonzales got the idea from a similar event in Owensboro, KY, where she used to live. “It was a win for the community, businesses got positive exposure, kids got candy, caretakers learned more about their community and it was daylight. I found myself entering business that I would not normally go into – it was a wonderful way to meet businesses in town – also meet the people who own the businesses and people who work there,” she said. “So, I contacted Mr. Montz with the idea and he said it was a great idea – but he needed someone to coordinate it. I volunteered.”
Gonzales was greeted with excitement and enthusiastic responses from downtown businesses and hopes to make this an annual event. “The owners of Cabin Creations said they used to do this downtown – but no one else remembers. I hope this becomes a new tradition for Tiffin.”
The following organizations are scheduled to participate, as well as businesses displaying a flyer in the window during the event:
Throughout the day, walkers can visit Tiffin museums and galleries to view exhibits, take tours, create crafts and enter into drawings for door prizes. There are also 15 downtown businesses participating, with free live music, art displays and demonstrations, and tours.
The following museums and galleries are participating:
Simply Susan’s, a “unique boutique,” to open downtown
TIFFIN, OHIO – June 5, 2015 – Scrap Happy owner Susan Wilkinson has announced she will be opening a new store, Simply Susan’s, at the former location of Hey That’s My Stuff in downtown Tiffin. Wilkinson hopes to open the store at 70 South Washington Street in early September.
Wilkinson said she wants to make Simply Susan’s a “unique boutique” and gift shop. Offerings will include chocolates to be made in-house, customizable sugar cookies, craft supplies, scrapbooking basics and possibly apparel. The business will also include arts and crafts classes, a room available to rent for parties and events, and live Disney princesses for store events and private parties.
Though Wilkinson owned Scrap Happy, a scrapbooking supply shop, for nine years, this will be her first downtown venture. “This is a great time to open a store downtown, the passion is there. There’s a group of people there that are excited and they want to help you,” Wilkinson said.
She is also excited to be located next to Bailiwick’s Coffee Company. “The two businesses complement each other well,” Wilkinson said.
Susan’s is part of a growing resurgence in art for downtown Tiffin, joining businesses such as Bailiwick’s, Red Raven, the Tiffin Art Guild and The Ritz Theatre in offering visual and performance art opportunities through education, supplies and events.
Wilkinson is currently updating the interior of the store space and also plans to take advantage of the Façade Enhancement Program to repaint the building’s exterior.
