Uptown Flea this weekend

Copy of uptown flea fb (1)The public is invited to experience a new and unique pop-up “shop” featuring local crafters and artisans who specialize in quality, handmade items, along with food producers and other creative merchants. The event will be held on Saturday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Laird Arcade Building and coincides with the first Seneca County Farmers Market of the season.

The organizer behind Uptown Flea is TiffinOhio.org owner Merre Phillips, who explained her inspiration: “I love these kind of events and have recently attended indie craft fairs and markets in Columbus and Toledo and knew that the same kind of talented crafters and makers were right here in our own community. With the popularity of these kind of events and with websites like Etsy.com, it felt like the right time to bring a creative group of vendors together in order for them to showcase and sell their products to a local market.”

Merre said that if the Uptown Flea goes well, she is looking forward to scheduling future dates for this event.

Businesses can join new city app for free

Discover Tiffin dl screenToday, the City of Tiffin launched a new mobile phone app called “Discover Tiffin,” which gives users information about businesses and services, as well as events and special alerts. The app is available at no cost for both Apple and Android devices. The app was developed by Jake Schaaf with the new local digital development company Fort Ball Digital

Currently, 50 businesses and organizations have signed up, and all businesses within the city limits of Tiffin can sign up for free on the app itself. Any business can download the app, select “Tools & Links” from the drop down menu, select “List my business!” and enter the information they would like to appear. Any business having issues getting listed can call SIEDC at 419.447.3831 for assistance.

The app has multiple features, including detailed business listings, a calendar of events and even a form to report a city issue. Users can easily search for local restaurants, recreation spots, professional services, worship services or retail shops, and find contact information, hours of operation, directions and a description of the business. A calendar of events provided by TiffinOhio.org, will keep users informed of upcoming events, and users can select an option to receive notifications from the app. There is also an option to report a problem to the city, and even attach a picture to the report.
