Three projects receive funding through Heritage Ohio

TIFFIN, OHIO – Aug. 5, 2020 – Tuesday, the Tiffin Architectural Board of Review approved a roof placement for 195-197 S. Washington St. With this approval, three projects in Downtown Tiffin have now been approved for funding through the Heritage Ohio Main Street Program Grant, which provides funding to support building and business enhancement and job creation complementing the four-point Main Street Approach.

Downtown Tiffin received $20,000, the maximum grant amount, from Heritage Ohio for the 2020 program year. Projects include tuck pointing for Tiffin Boutique Hotel Group LLC, 160 S. Washington St., which received a $10,000 grant toward an approximately $300,000 investment; roof replacement/repair for American Legion Post 169, 280 S. Washington St., which received a $8,245.68 grant for an $18,000 investment; and roof replacement at 195-197 S. Washington St., which received a $1,754.32 grant to support a $3,508.53 investment.

“Heritage Ohio is so pleased to bring this program to our certified Main Street communities,” said Joyce Barrett, Executive Director of Heritage Ohio. “A small investment goes a long way in leveraging private investment, needed so much during this period of economic recovery.  We thank the Ohio General Assembly for seeing that a targeted investment strategy in Ohio’s Main Street communities creates a positive return on their investment.”

Heritage Ohio was to award up to $440,000 for the 2020 grant cycle to National Main Street Communities. Downtown Tiffin has received accreditation for its Main Street program at both the state and national level for the years of 2016 through 2019. Applicant projects were eligible for a grant of up to $10,000 with a 1:1 match and projects were coordinated through Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership and Tiffin Architectural Board of Review.

The revitalization of downtown Tiffin began in 2011, when a group of community members came together to for “Tiffin Tomorrow”, with the goal of promoting and encouraging economic development in downtown Tiffin, and creating plans, programs and actions to ensure long-term vitality and prosperity. In 2014, the city of Tiffin contracted with SIEDC to act as the downtown organization and “Tiffin Tomorrow” came under the SIEDC umbrella as the “Downtown Development Committee,” which serves as the governing board of the downtown organization.
